Roma Street Station, 1957
Roma Street Station, 1957
In October of 1873, a tender notice appeared in the Government Gazette for the construction of the railway station in Brisbane. FDG Stanley who was the Superintendent of Buildings within the Public Works Department at the time, was the designer of the building. The tender of John Petrie was accepted in on December 1, 1873. The building was then built over the next two years.
The Roma Street Country Station in the photo, situated between the original building and Roma Street, was completed in 1940 and demolished in the 1980s to make way for the Brisbane Transit Centre.
